Acts 9:31- Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.
Prov 9:10 – The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
Ps 111:10 – The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.
Prov 3:19 – The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.
Prov 24:3-4 – Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
Matt 7:24-25 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
Wisdom is the building block of any lasting structure, any legacy, home, ministry or business etc. It is the one guarantee that assures a non-collapse of any venture eventually or in future.
Little wonder, it was the raw material with which God founded the earth as we know it today.
Prov 3:19 – The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.
Imagine having such a resource in your hands. The very resource by which God Himself founded the heavens. Wow! Yet it has been available for us, the church in such a simple way that we have so often missed it. The wisdom being spoken about here is not the wisdom of this world but that which comes from God (1Corinthians 2:6; 3:19).
A man of wisdom will definitely build lasting legacies that shall remain through the years, be it a home, a career, a ministry, an organization, a business etc. It takes wisdom to build anything trans-generational like the heavens or the earth. Hence Wisdom is such an invaluable resource. It is amazing however, how easy we have missed it. Imagine being armed with a guaranteed recipe of success and missing out on it. May God open our eyes to grab every hold of it henceforth in Jesus name. Amen.
WHAT IS WISDOM?
Proverbs 9:10 says : “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.”
“The beginning” means “the starting point” – “the entry level”. So the beginning of wisdom; the entry point of wisdom is “The fear of the Lord” – respect for God. Meaning anything below “respect for God” is outright foolishness. Anyday, anytime, in any situation where we disregard His voice, we outrightly walk in foolishness and can be sure to hit the rock! How revealing.
To fear God here is not about being afraid of God. Proverbs 9:10 gave us a further insight. “fear of the Lord”. Means giving Him the place of “Lord“ship – a master whose words we must obey! It says “a good understanding have they that do His commandments – His words.”
So the fear of the Lord being spoken of here is outright respect for God in terms of obeying His voice. The Bible called it “trembling at His words”. Isaiah 66:2
“…but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word”.You know, God being merciful and kind to His children usually doesn’t enforce His respect on us, but those that respect Him, trembling at His words, His instructions, diving at His commands, are those who walk in and reap the fruits of divine wisdom. It is the scratch – the beginning, the entry point to wisdom. Anything below that is outright foolishness. Your house can never stand.
Jesus came more direct in Matt 7:24-25. Hearing God and doing, is wisdom – it is the guarantee of everlasting legacy. You can’t walk in foolishness and prosper. You can’t walk in foolishness and be fruitful. You can’t be fruitful that way.
It takes wisdom to excel in life and it begins with respect for God. A lot of us are so used to God’s love that we take Him for granted. He instructs, He inspires, He reveals yet we simply forget or ignore the details of His leadings and His inspirations. We casualize His lead. And this has been our greatest undoing and indeed foolishness. The Holy Spirit tells me, this is the reason a lot of believers have experienced delays in success and in answers to prayers.
Wisdom is bringing ourselves to the point where we make His voice, His instructions, His leading, His revelations our command!
It means we must learn to exalt His will above our desires. You know, the truth is God loves us so much that His will always favours us above our own desires. At His right hand, the bible says, are pleasures forevermore. I mean “pleasures”! Yes, God’s will is to please you when you please Him – that’s how much He loves us.
It doesn’t matter how spiritual we are or how clearly we hear from God, what matters is what we do having heard. The man who hears God and does not do His sayings, no matter how spiritual he is or how clearly he hears God’s voice, is simply a foolish man. Jesus Himself said whatever such a foolish man builds will never stand the test of time! (Matthew 7:24-25).
This is quite revealing. So many of us have let the devil shortchange us all along on this seemingly little issue. We could get so spiritual in the place of prayer and fasting, receiving unlimited degrees of revelations and insights, yet walking in outright foolishness and fruitlessness simply because we refuse to do God’s simple bids. We sometimes even engage more sacrifices of prayers and fastings just to make up for our past foolishness of disobedience and end up frustrating ourselves the more.
Oh! How correctly the scriptures declare, “For to obey is better than sacrifice and to hearken than the fats of bulls and rams”. I strongly believe in the efficacy of fasting and prayers, but not even the sacrifice of fasting and prayer can take the place of prompt obedience to God’s voice. In fact, I’d rather fast and pray for revelation on what to do and the grace to promptly do what He says. Fasting and praying delivers revelation on what to do most often, while obedience is a key that we must apply to unlock the blessedness of our prayers, fasting and revelations.
My dear reader, as a believer, if there is one prayer you must pray this year, it is this: “Dear father, teach me to walk in prompt obedience”. It will save you several extra days of fasting and prayer. I have learned this even from experience. It will deliver God’s own divine wisdom by which He created such a beautiful planet into your hands and at your own disposal. And it will even speed up miracles in your direction on issues you never even had anything to do about.
The secret of your fruitfulness and my fruitfulness this year is simply being careful to hear God and to do – That’s WISDOM DEFINED – The fear of The Lord! Give yourself to this today. Make this your new reality and you’d be shocked how far God will take you. I heard Mike Murdock say, “You can never imagine how far God will take you if only you knew how to behave when you got there”.
THE RESULT OF WISDOM
Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied. Acts 9:31
When you walk in the fear of the LORD which is the entry level of WISDOM, according to Acts 9:31,
- You will find all round rest when the world is panicking
- You will be edified when the world is worried and confused
- You will be comforted by the fruitful leading of the Holy Spirit when the world is crying
- You will hence multiply when others are diminishing
It was the secret of our Father Abraham, Isaac and eventually Jacob (who became Israel). Herein is wisdom, put God’s word to test, pattern your life to hear and obey. Exalt His promptings above your desires. Respect Him to the extent that His leadings are your commands and see if it will fail. It has never failed. If the bible defines this as the beginning of Wisdom, by which the earth was built and the heavens were founded. You can be sure, it’s a world record breaking resource to dive into.
If however, you do not have a relationship with God through His son Jesus Christ, you really have no part in this. Yet I invite you to establish one with Him just now by following this link and saying the prayers that follow from the depth of your heart and you will be saved. Click here
God bless you and have a great week, living on purpose!
